Meade Farm have won on the double at the Green Food & Beverage Awards for Best Sustainable Packaging Strategy and CSR Initiative of the Year (with FoodCloud). We have also received the Runner Up Award for the Best Horticultural Producer. Sponsored by ESB and Veolia, the awards programmes is in its inaugural year, having previously been included in a smaller format in the overall Green Awards. The independent judging panel included prominent sustainability leaders from industry and academia.
Our innovative 100% compostable bag and collaborative approach to evolving packaging materials were integral to winning the Best Sustainable Packaging Strategy Award at the online ceremony on 5th November. Notable high-achievers in sustainability such as Coca Cola, ABP and Aurivo were amongst the competition for the packaging award which judged entries on how their organisation was approaching sustainability issues related to packaging.
Jointly with FoodCloud, we also took the gong for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the year for our 'gleaning' project, a joint initiative with FoodCloud community foodbank. The project offers corporate volunteers from companies such as Lidl Ireland and AIB an opportunity to gather crops left over in the field after harvest and donate them to FoodCloud’s community foodbank. Team building and farm to fork education opportunities are valued side benefits of this project.
“We were honoured to be shortlisted with such accomplished companies; winning both awards as well was an excellent bonus. In both awards, for our packaging and our gleaning CSR initiative, it is a testament to our collaborative approach. Here at Meade Farm we have found that focusing on innovation and collaboration yields the best results when it comes to making progress in sustainability,” commented Eleanor Meade, Business Operations Manager of Meade Farm.
